“Trump and Congress are dealing big blows to clean air, endangering public health and repealing rules that have been around for 50 years. Here are two recent actions they've taken that you may have missed:
“On May 22nd, Congress repealed the reclassification rule, allowing around 1,800 industrial facilities to reclassify themselves as "minor polluters." By reclassifying chemical plants, refineries, some of the worst polluters in the country will be free to stop monitoring, controlling, or reporting their toxic emissions, leaving them with no accountability, and us with dirtier air.
“In a similar decision, the EPA announced that companies could apply for permission to be exempted from pollution controls by simply emailing them. Under this, the EPA has already granted dozens of these exemptions for coal-fired power plants, putting more arsenic, mercury, and acid into our air.
