Earthjustice announced today that Moneen Nasmith will serve as Director of National Climate, Fossil Fuel Infrastructure.
In this role, Nasmith will bring her expertise in the Natural Gas Act and other federal laws before agencies like the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Nasmith will continue to partner with Earthjustice attorneys and organizations across the United States to challenge harmful fossil fuel infrastructure projects like gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities and ensure that the harms of these projects are adequately considered.
“This is a critical moment for Earthjustice’s work to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, protect communities from harm, and preserve a livable planet,” said Jill Tauber, Vice President of Litigation for Climate and Energy at Earthjustice. “Moneen’s legal and regulatory expertise will help advance our work to prevent a massive buildout of destructive fossil fuel infrastructure in the U.S..”
In partnership with our clients and allies, Nasmith has led efforts to curtail the expansion and development of new fossil fuel infrastructure, like the Constitution gas pipeline project in New York. Nasmith and her team will continue to challenge the unlawful rubberstamping of unnecessary gas infrastructure, like the approval of the Regional Energy Access Expansion (REAE) project, a massive expansion of gas capacity into New Jersey, that was struck down by a federal court for failing to adequately demonstrate that it was needed. Nasmith and her team will also continue to challenge unlawful unchecked approval of additional LNG terminals and export authorizations.
Nasmith has been an attorney with Earthjustice for 12 years. Before focusing on federal laws governing fossil fuel projects, she was an attorney in Earthjustice’s Northeast Regional Office for more than 9 years. Prior to joining Earthjustice, she worked at several organizations focusing on various environmental issues and started her legal career at a large law firm.
