Most people know that solar and wind energy is only generated when the sun shines or the wind blows. This leaves potential power gaps at times of no sun or wind. One of the Holy Grails of renewable energy has been storage systems (think battery here) that can store surplus energy when it’s produced for use later.
Solar power reached a milestone in Hawaiʻi on Tuesday when Hawaiian Electrical Company announced an agreement to push forward a new solar program that will enable more efficient connection to the state’s electrical grid.
In Hawaiʻi, the state Department of Taxation has moved to cut tax credits for solar panel installations in half. Earthjustice has challenged this rule on behalf of the Sierra Club in order to encourage more installation of solar panels.
